To provide players ages 19 and under the opportunity to play football where their skills will be upgraded and opportunities provided to continue their football careers through education or junior football.

The Hawkeyes were the brainchild of Ted Morris, the then chief Canadian scout for the Toronto Argonauts. He walked into the office of G.M. Canada President E. H. Walker and suggested a Junior Football club for Oshawa. Walker took the idea and ran with it and the new O.F.C. (Ontario Football Conference, formerly Junior Big Four Football League) had a new team for the 1959 season, the Oshawa Imps, nicknamed after the new G.M. Impala. Walker served on the first executive along with other high powered business men like Harry Gay, Graham Coulter, Arn Greene, Murray Maidlow, Tony McILveen, Dr. Leo Krantz, Faye Brooks, Vern Walker and Dyson Brooks. It didn’t take long to realize what an awful name “Imps” was. By 1961 the club took on its present name though the double blue and white Argonaut colours were kept. The O.F.C. (Ontario Football Conference) is part of the C.J.F.L (Canadian Junior Football League) with teams in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and B.C.
 
In 1980 Gord Carey and Ian Bunting of the club executive with the support of Oshawa Branch 43 Royal Canadian Legion started the Hawkeye Legionaires minor system. A Peewee team was entered in the Scarborough Boys Football League. The following year Atom and Bantam teams were added and in 1987 a Midget team then in 1991 a Tyke team was created. It was now possible to play for the Hawkeyes from age 8 to 22.
 
The Junior Hawkeyes best years came between 1975 and 1982 with a playoff berth each year and a national number 3 ranking in 1980. The Hawkeyes hosted the 1996 Canadian Bowl (C.J.F.L. championship) between Windsor and Saskatoon but due to lack of funds the team was folded prior to the start of the 1997 regular season.
 
The Midget team won the League and Provincial championship in 1987. After the 1990 season the Midget league folded. In the 1991 and 1992 seasons with the hard work and dedication of then head coach Roger Brown the Midgets played an exhibition schedule against mostly high school teams travelling as far as Ottawa and Flint Michigan. The Hawkeyes were founding members of the Great Lakes Football League were the team competed from 1993 until 2000 when they moved to the O.V.F.L. (Ontario Varsity Football League).
 
The minor teams played in the Scarborough Boys Football League until 1986 when the C.O.M.F.L (Central Ontario Minor Football League) was formed. The Bantams won a League and Provincial championship in 1986 and again in 1997. The Atoms also won both in 1993.
 
In 2001 the Hawkeyes entered a team in the N.F.C. (Northern Football Conference) of the C.M.F.L (Canadian Major Football League) and won a National Championship in 2006 beating the Calgary Wolfpack 43 to 29 in Red Deer Alberta. Due to lack of operating funds this team ceased operation after the 2008 season.
 
Current status of teams and leagues: The Hawkeyes moved to the OFC for the 2018 spring/summer season and the OFL in the fall. We have Peewee and Bantam teams in the fall OFL, and in the spring, Peewee, Bantam, Junior and Senior teams OFC. There is also a House League for Atom and Peewee aged players in the spring. The OFC teams compete from May to early August and the fall OFL teams from August thru November.
 
The official name of the organization is the Oshawa Junior Football Club Inc.
